A pair of  climbing frame means joy and fun for the little ones. It is a versatile piece of play equipment that can be found on most public playgrounds. Such a framework, with its many different elements, offers the child the opportunity to let off steam in any form and supports numerous skills and abilities.

Unfortunately, today's children are less and less visiting the playground and digital media are becoming more and more interesting. Many parents don't even know how important it is to regularly visit a playground with their child or register them in a sports club. Plenty of activity in childhood reduces the risk of motor deficits and promotes healthy further development.

What is a climbing frame?

Climbing frames can be found on almost every playground in the world and can be made of a wide variety of materials. Most of the time it is metal tubes, plastic, wood or rope constructions of different sizes that offer the short ones the opportunity to climb.

In contrast to the past, these days there are more rope constructions than metal climbing frames. Nevertheless, the function has remained the same, as it used to be today, and the individual levels are connected to one another by ladders, gratings or slides.

Movement promotes development and motor skills

The little ones learn many important things while playing, which play a major role in their development. Climbing on a jungle gym is no exception. It claims different potentials through which a child can develop better and more easily.

Climbing on a climbing frame, for example, is particularly good for developing and promoting your sense of balance, but coordination is also trained. Motion sequences and the correct sequence of movements are developed passively, without the child noticing anything.

Nowadays, the little ones' freedom of movement is becoming more and more restricted and their interests develop elsewhere. Television, computer games or mobile phones are currently more interesting for most little ones than the playground around the corner.

Possible consequences for this behavior are a widespread lack of exercise, which in turn leads to motor deficits in some. Many have big problems even with the simplest exercises, such as running backwards, balancing or doing a somersault.

One of the consequences of these deficits is that many of the little ones lose interest in activity and sport when they realize that they have problems with the simplest exercises. Little activity in connection with increasingly unhealthy eating and drinking lead to increasing obesity in the development of the little ones.

Severe obesity in childhood can have a negative impact on the further development of the little ones. Most of the little ones do not yet understand that healthy eating is an important part of health.

Once the little ones are overweight, their natural urge to move diminishes, as they quickly realize that they can no longer keep up with their peers. The desire to visit the playground in their free time or to play in the garden in general or to visit a sports club disappears.

But since they have to do something in their free time, televisions, mobile phones and computers are taking up more and more space in children's lives.

Children learn new behavior patterns every day. Active parents also tend to have active little ones. This is attributed to the role model function. However, small children in particular are dependent on their parents taking the initiative and registering them, for example, in a sports club.

More active parents are usually also more interested in their little ones doing sports and being outdoors in their free time. As long as the children are small, they are guided by what is done in the family. If the family is very active and does a lot on weekends, the probability that the child will have motor deficits in a few years is much lower than if the family just sits together on the sofa.

When it comes to nutrition in childhood, a lot also depends on the parents and the family. If parents constantly give their children sweets between meals, and if the little ones generally spend a lot of time in front of the computer or television instead of moving, the risk of being overweight increases sharply.

What should children do and how can their parents support them?

There are lots of exercise and leisure activities for the little ones everywhere so that they can be active alongside school or kindergarten. The basis is the so-called everyday activities, at home these are activities such as tidying up the room, taking out the rubbish and going shopping together.

There are also leisure activities in which you don't sweat or get out of breath, such as riding bikes or kick scooters together and sporting activities that make you sweat, for example the little ones catch the big ones or go swimming together. In order to be sufficiently active every day, you should do something of each.

Kids don't need much to get going. They don't care about expensive sports equipment, they don't even need a huge garden or a playground. Giving them enough exercise doesn't necessarily mean they have to have any activity on their schedule every day.

Letting off steam and playing is enough, they can develop imaginative play ideas outside, for example with sticks, stones, old buckets and leaves. Kicking, catching or playing together also supports development. With very simple ideas and play equipment such as a climbing frame, a swing, a sandbox or a slide, the little ones can keep busy and move for afternoons.

As good as exercise is for the health of the little ones, too much television or computer games is unfavorable. Because then the little ones have little or no time to play and romp around with their friends or siblings. There is also a risk of eating large amounts of sweets while watching TV or similar activities.

It does not necessarily have to be a membership in a sports club or fixed dates in the calendar, but a daily romp on the playground or in the garden is enough for the time being to support the children's motor skills.
